Concierto de Aranjuez

Colombian guitarist Francisco Correa will join the London Gala Orchestra conducted by Stephen Ellery at the wonderful setting of St Martin in the fields for a performance of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez. Programme also includes Faure Requiem and Zadok the priest by Handel.

After many years of playing together John Williams and John Etheridge are joined by classical guitarist and composer Gary Ryan in a colourful and varied programme of solos, duos and trios. Williams and Etheridge will play some of their most popular pieces together and own compositions and Gary Ryan will play his own “Benga Beat”. The programme will also feature duos played by Ryan and Williams, by Ryan and Etheridge and trio pieces “Malinke Guitars” and “Triangular Situations”. All pieces will be introduced by the players.

Marcin Dylla was born in Chorzow in 1976 and received his first guitar lessons at the Ruda Slaska Music Conservatory in his native Poland. From 1995 to 2000 he studied at the Music Academy of Katowice with Adi Wanda Palacz and later completed his studies with Oscar Ghiglia, Sonja Prunnbauer and Carlo Marchione at the Music Academies of Basel (Switzerland), Freiburg (Germany) and Maastricht (The Netherlands), respectively. He is currently a Professor at the Music Academy in Kraków and Katowice.

Ali Arango in concert

Alí Arango has played extensively, he has toured in Catalonia and at 19 years old toured throughout Cuba with the National Symphony Orchestra invited by Leo Brouwer, interpreting the Concierto de Aranjuez. He has also played in Italy, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Algeria, Germany, Mexico and USA. He have made the world premiere performance of three of Brouwer’s works: "Paisaje Cubano con Tristeza" (for guitar); "Gismontiana" (for four guitars and a string orchestra) and Nr. 1 Series of "Danzas Rituales y Festivas" (for guitar).

IGF's Young Artist Platform presents: What Guitar Trio

Made up of experienced and award-winning postgraduate students from the Royal College of Music and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, What Guitar Trio formed with the goal of promoting, specializing and augmenting repertoire for three guitars. Since its inception in early 2016, the ensemble has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in the country, including Barbican and the Wigmore Hall. An important focus for What Guitar Trio has been the enthusiastic promotion of contemporary music. Today’s concert features a new IGF Commission by Graham Lynch.

IGF's Young Artist Platform presents: Andrea Vettoretti Quartet + Housden-Tarlton Duo

The concert will start with the Housden-Tarlton Duo, followed by the Andrea Vettoretti Quartet after the interval. Housden-Tarlton Duo: Jiva Housden and George Tarlton formed the Duo in 2012 while studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Both were scholarship students tutored by Robert Brightmore and David Miller and thrived during their time there, taking every opportunity to play with other instrumentalists, including chamber groups and orchestras. Jiva and George have performed across the UK, including at the Stogumber Music Festival and the London Music Festival and renowned UK venues such as Kings Place, the Barbican and most recently Milton Court. This concert features a new IGF Commission by Errollyn Wallen. Andrea Vettoretti Quartet – Wonderland: This exceptional show retells the story that conquered millions of people around the world through the magic of Andrea Vettoretti’s guitar. Andrea is one of Italy’s foremost guitarists and composers. This special project features his new composed music celebrating the wonderful story of Alice in Wonderland. Immerse yourself in the magical sound and light world of Wonderland. Don’t miss this guitar event with a difference!

David Russell is one of the giants of the classical guitar today. His beautifully polished and refined playing have made him a hero to guitarists and audiences the world over. Tonight’s programme includes pieces from Sylvius Leopold Weiss, JS Bach, Edvard Grieg and the UK premiere of Sérgio Assad’s David Portrait, dedicated to David Russell.
